This week, host Sarwar Kashmeri speaks with Charles Martin, President and Treasurer of Bommer Industries, Inc., a privately held manufacturing company in Landrum, South Carolina founded in 1876. Martin, who employs 190 people at Bommer, says sales of hinges and mailboxes are down significantly over the past year, due to downturns in the construction industry. “This is the worst that I have seen” in 30 years, said Martin, who voiced moderate support for government attempts to address the economic meltdown. “You’ve got to swing at the ball sometimes in order to put it in play,” he added, drawing on his experience as a baseball coach. Hello, Sarwar,
I appreciate hearing what Charles Martin had to say. He seems to have a good perspective on the issues and their impact. His take on the efforts of the administration rated 9 and the actual impact on the economy rated 4 was probably accurate. People are less enamored with the big financial conglomerates and insurance companies.
Jobs, jobs, jobs is the mantra - I agree. So many people are losing jobs. In some families at our school both parents have lost their jobs. Its the worst I’ve experienced in 43 years of teaching. You hear about more and more people each week.
I feel soooo fortunate to have a good job and one that I enjoy. I am thankful everyday!
Jane
